Install Kages

Install the tested CLI release with npm (Node 18 or newer). The command is kages:

npm install -g https://app.getkages.com/downloads/ifocksh-kages-0.2.0.tgz
kages --version

Or run it without installing: npx -y --package=https://app.getkages.com/downloads/ifocksh-kages-0.2.0.tgz kages --version.

Sign in and verify your workspace

Follow the setup guide. Sign in to the same account in your browser and the agent’s terminal. Your cloud workspace is provisioned automatically; kages init is for local setup.

kages auth login --url https://app.getkages.com
kages remote get_setup

Connect your agent

Register the Kages MCP server so your agent can build and publish Kages (for Codex, use codex mcp add):

claude mcp add kages -- kages mcp

Or let kages install install authoring skills for supported coding tools — it shows each file first and writes nothing until you agree:

kages install

Or install it as a plugin

No CLI needed. The plugin bundles the hosted MCP server with the authoring skills, and installs once for every project. In Claude Code, pick User scope when asked:

/plugin marketplace add focks/kages
/plugin install kages@kages

In Codex:

codex plugin marketplace add focks/kages
codex plugin add kages@kages

Hosted HTTP MCP needs a Bearer credential configured in the client; browser or terminal login does not attach it. Use signed-in stdio when possible. Call get_setup from the agent, then get_context; get_authoring_guide loads the skill and references even without MCP prompts.
